About Lama Yeshe:

Lama Tsultrim Yeshe (John Samuelson) has been a student of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche since 1989. He completed the first three-year retreat at Karme Ling under the direction of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, earning the title “Retreat Lama.” He took novice monk vows in 1994 from Tai Situ Rinpoche and fully ordained monastic vows in 2008 from Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.

He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for 8 years as a prison Chaplain. He continues to do volunteer work in the prison teaching meditation, Buddhism and giving guidance. He has gained valuable experience working with inmates in a medium security prison, many of them having had difficult and abusive childhoods, anger management problems, and high levels of anxiety and stress.

Lama Yeshe is the resident Lama at the Hay River Karma Thegsum Choling located in Western Wisconsin. He travels throughout the country to other Buddhist centers to teach and lead retreats.LamaYeshe2

Meet Up

Friends of Tampa KTC:

We’re excited to announce some of our upcoming events for fall. We are planning retreats and teachings, and are expanding our opportunities for mindfulness meditation. Stay tuned for more information on the events below, as we are working now to set the details:

– In September, we will be hosting Lama Yeshe from the Hay River KTC, for a series of teachings on the value of mediation in daily life. We are planning an evening “Coffee with a Lama” event at a local coffee house, as a relaxed conversation about mindfulness. We are also planning a daylong teaching on meditation from Lama Yeshe, with opportunities to attend morning or afternoon sessions.

– Also in September, we will begin hosting Mindfulness Meditation sessions at local Tampa Library branches. These will include basic instruction in meditation, and opportunities for practice.

– In October, we will continue with our practice of meditation and Chenrezig sadhana. We will be adding an extra date, and are changing our format to include a longer session of mindfulness meditation, both sitting and walking, followed by sadhana practice. We will continue our “Meet and Eat” event prior to practice, and people can come for either or both of the meditation and sadhana practice sessions, as they wish.

– In November, we are planning to bring Lama Losang from the Gainesville KTC, for a weekend teaching and retreat. We look forward to providing more details as soon as they come available.

Please stay tuned to our Facebook page and email updates for further information on these and other upcoming events. We wish you all many blessings in the Dharma

Please join Tampa KTC’s fundraising effort to establish a permanent Dharma center.  Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a small house in the area.  The Lama House will be a retreat center where Lamas from KTD and India can stay for extended visits, to teach and offer guidance to the community.  The Lama House will enable us to offer weekly meditation and practice. With a full time location, we can outreach into the community and move forward to support other centers and  monasteries.                                                                                        In 1985 Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche planted the seed of the Dharma with the guidance of His Holiness, the 16th Karmapa. The teachers that have walked through the doorways of Tampa KTC Retreat Center pointed out in each of us our true Buddha nature. From that seed, the teachings of the Buddha have been a path that we all have followed. We come and go like waves on the ocean, but the seeds are planted in our mind stream. My Buddhist Pilgrimage to the heart of the Dharma in August awakened a need for the Dharma to be present and alive in our community. Our aspiration is to follow the wishes of His Holiness, the 17th Karmapa, and be stewards to our earth and support environmental projects.

My aspiration and firm belief is that we can raise the funds to continue the seed planted by His Holiness and the Kagyu Lineage and rebuild our center. We all have had the blessings of our teachers and gurus and their help on our journey. It is time for us to rebuild our center and grow the Dharma in our lives. A $100.00 donation from 1000 people will get us there.                                                                                                                                                                                                               Donations are being accepted through YOU CARING.COM  Crowdfunding website Tree of Merit Tampa Bay KTCfacebook_593401342

Grassroots Project to find a new location

After an amazing Pilgrimage to Tibet; it has become clear that our ultimate goal is to find a location in Tampa  where we can have our own place to meet and bring teachers to stay and teach through-out the year. We will be looking for devotees of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa and the Kagyu Lineage for donations to support this project. The 16th Karmapa believed there was a place for the Dharma in our lives and we would like to keep that wish to thrive and grow in the hearts  of our sangha. Please contact us if you would like to donate towards the purchase.FB_IMG_1445468910477 facebook_59340134220150818_094641
